1) "Vegans Take America" Today at 11 AM on NPR's On Point with Tom Ashbrook

Radio alert!  Today at 11:05 AM NPR's On Point with Tom Ashbrook will explore "Vegans Take America."  In Boston, this is on WBUR 90.9 FM, will be repeated at 8 PM, and available on their website.

"For years and years, to be vegan was to be well outside the American mainstream... But things change, and suddenly vegans and veganism seem to be everywhere. Some Americans going all the way.  Some toe-dipping. It’s a remarkable moment, a remarkable shift.  We look at what’s up with Americans going vegan."

2)  Updates on Protein Needs for Vegans

Some important updates have been made to the Vegan Health page on protein needs.  In particular,

   * Legumes, quinoa, and pistachios are the only plants foods high in the amino acid lysine. If you are not eating them every day, you might be falling short of lysine needs.
   * There is evidence that people over 60 should be eating well above the RDA for protein to prevent muscle and bone loss.

3)  NBA Champ John Salley's PSA on Diabetes/Eating More Vegan

NBA champion and vegan advocate John Salley has made a 30 second public service announcement.  “I’ll bet you know someone with type 2 diabetes,” says Salley in the spots. “Now, this can lead to heart problems, strokes, and even blindness. ... You can up your defenses by eating more fruits and vegetables and having more vegetarian and vegan meals.”
